Choosing a format: league, groups or knockout
For each division you choose “League”, “Group stage”, “Knockout” or “Pools + bracket”. A knockout needs 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 or 64 teams; with pools + bracket, the qualifiers must add up to 2, 4, 8, 16 or 32.
- Under “Divisions or categories”, open the division's “Format”.
- Choose “League”, “Group stage”, “Knockout” or “Pools + bracket”.
- If there are groups, set “Pools” and “Advance per pool”.
- Tap “See proposal” and check under “This is your tournament” how many matches you get.
- League: everyone plays everyone. Works well up to about 6 teams.
- Group stage: everyone plays everyone within each group, with no knockout and no single winner.
- Knockout: lose and you're out. Needs 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 or 64 teams.
- Pools + bracket: groups and then a knockout bracket. Groups × “Advance per pool” must make 2, 4, 8, 16 or 32.
With 10 teams: 2 groups of 5 and 2 go through. That gives 4 qualifiers, semi-finals and a final. Each group needs at least 2 teams.
There's no third-place play-off: teams knocked out in the same round share the position. If you want to play it, organise it separately and announce the result yourself.
Not sure? Under “Start from a template” there are 9 ready-made tournaments with the format already chosen (see “Starting from a template”).
